Section 3. Entry requirements
Applicants must satisfy all of the following.
- Academic qualification. A completed bachelor degree or higher (AQF Level 7 or above) from a recognised Australian higher education provider, or an equivalent overseas qualification, in any discipline. The degree does not need to be in theology or ministry.
- Ministry or professional experience. At least five years of substantial involvement in Christian ministry, paid or voluntary, such as leading a ministry area, preaching or teaching, pastoral care or church planting. Or at least five years of professional experience in business or organisational leadership at a management or senior level, with demonstrated success and responsibility for people, finances or strategy.
- Church endorsement. A written recommendation from your senior pastor or church board confirming your character, calling and active church involvement, and at least two years of active involvement in your current congregation.
- References. One ministry or character reference and one professional reference.
- Interview. A formal interview with the ordination panel assessing calling, character, doctrinal alignment and readiness for ordained ministry.
- Study requirement. Agreement to complete the five prescribed subjects through CHC Online within an agreed timeframe, normally two to three years, achieving a passing grade in each.
Section 4. Recognition of Prior Learning
In exceptional circumstances, applicants without a bachelor degree who have ten or more years of senior leadership experience in ministry or business may be considered case by case. They submit a portfolio evidencing their leadership experience, achievements and capacity for postgraduate level study, mirroring experience based entry to MBA programs at Australian universities.
Section 5. Provisional credential
Candidates admitted under this pathway may be granted a provisional ministry credential on entry. Full ordination is conferred on satisfactory completion of the five prescribed CHC Online subjects and any other denominational requirements, including the final recommendation of the ordination panel.
